Accessing Account Deletion Page
- First, you'll need to use a web browser. Open your preferred web browser as account deletion cannot be performed directly from the Telegram app.
- Visit the official Telegram Deactivation Page by entering this URL: https://my.telegram.org/auth?to=deactivate.
- You will be prompted to log in. Enter your phone number in the international format (e.g., +123456789).
Receiving the Confirmation Code
- After entering your phone number, click "Next." Telegram will send a confirmation code to your Telegram app, not to your SMS messages.
- Open your Telegram app on any device where you are logged in to find this confirmation code.
Deleting the Account
- Enter the received confirmation code back into the web page and click "Sign In."
- On the account management page, find and click the "Delete Account" option.
- You will be asked to provide a reason for leaving. Fill this in if you wish (it's optional), then click the "Delete My Account" button.
- A confirmation prompt will appear. Confirm your decision by clicking "Yes, delete my account."
Important Considerations
- Once your account is deleted, it cannot be undone. Your chat history and contacts will be permanently erased.
- If you decide to sign up for Telegram again in the future, your previous data will not be recoverable.
- Be aware that, even after deletion, Telegram may retain certain logs and data in accordance with its privacy policy and terms of service.
Alternative: Automatic Account Deletion
- If you prefer not to go through the manual deletion process, you can let your account self-destruct after a certain period of inactivity.
- In the Telegram app, go to "Settings" > "Privacy and Security" > "Delete my account if away for" and choose a time frame (e.g., 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year).
