Access Twitter (X)
- Open your preferred web browser and navigate to the Twitter web page by typing twitter.com in the address bar.
- Log into your account using your username/email and password if you are not automatically logged in.
Open Account Settings
- Once logged in, click on your profile icon located at the top-right corner of the homepage. This will open a dropdown menu.
- From the dropdown menu, select the "Settings and privacy" option. This action will redirect you to the settings page.
Access Deactivation Settings
- On the settings page, look for the "Your Account" section. You may need to scroll down to locate this section.
- Click on "Your Account" to expand its options. Here, you will see several choices related to your account management.
- Select the "Deactivate your account" option to proceed with the deletion process.
Read Through the Deactivation Information
- Twitter will now display information about what deactivating your account entails. It may highlight how deactivation is only temporary for the first 30 days.
- Understand that after 30 days of deactivation, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted, with no option for recovery.
Confirm Deactivation
- If you're sure about continuing, click the "Deactivate" button at the bottom of the information panel.
- Twitter may prompt you to re-enter your password for security reasons. Provide your password and click "Deactivate account" again.
Final Confirmation
- A confirmation message will appear, asking for your final decision to deactivate. Confirm by clicking "Yes, deactivate" to finalize your decision.
- Your Twitter account is now deactivated. You’ll be logged out automatically and directed to the homepage.
