Deleting Your Instagram Account
- Make sure you actually want to delete your Instagram account. This is permanent and irreversible. Consider downloading your data first, as this action will permanently remove your profile, photos, videos, comments, likes, and followers.
- Instagram doesn't allow you to delete your account directly from the app, so you need to access the Instagram account deletion page through a web browser.
Access the Account Deletion Page
- Open a web browser on your desktop or mobile device and go to the [account deletion page](https://www.instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent/). You may need to log in if you haven't already done so.
- If you're not already logged in to Instagram on the web, you'll be prompted to do so. Make sure to enter the username and password for the account you want to delete.
Select a Reason for Deleting Your Account
- Once on the account deletion page, you'll see a dropdown menu asking you to select a reason for why you're leaving Instagram.
- Choose the most appropriate option that fits your reason for deactivating. Instagram may provide suggestions or ask if you want to resolve your trouble with the app instead of deleting it.
Re-enter Your Password
- After selecting a reason, Instagram will prompt you to re-enter your password. Enter your Instagram password for confirmation purposes. This is to verify that you are the account's legitimate owner.
Confirm Deletion
- After you've confirmed the reason and entered your password, click on the **"Permanently delete my account"** button.
- Your account will be scheduled for deletion. This process is immediate, and your account and all associated data will be permanently removed.
Download Your Data Before Deleting
- If you want to keep a copy of your Instagram data (photos, videos, etc.) before deletion, go to Instagram's **Settings** > **Security** > **Download Data**. Instagram will email you a link to a file with your photos, comments, profile information, and more.
- Ensure to request and download your data before finalizing the account deletion process.
Consider Temporarily Disabling Your Account
- If you're not sure about permanently deleting your account, consider temporarily disabling it instead. This option hides your account until you're ready to reactivate it by logging back in.
- To temporarily disable, navigate to your **Profile** on the website, click on **Edit Profile**, scroll to the bottom, and select **Temporarily disable my account**.
