Set Up Google Home
- Ensure your Google Home device is properly set up and connected to your Wi-Fi network. If you haven't done this yet, download the Google Home app on your phone and follow the prompts to connect your device.
- Sign in to the Google Home app using your Google account if you're not already signed in.
Create a Nighttime Routine
- Open the Google Home app on your smartphone. Make sure you are on the Home page.
- Tap on the "Routines" option, typically found in the settings menu represented by a gear icon, or sometimes directly on your home screen.
- Select “Add a routine” to start creating a new nighttime routine. Here, you can start customizing your routine by giving it a name like "Bedtime" or "Nightly Wind Down."
- Under "When I say," input the command you prefer such as "Good night" or "Bedtime" that will trigger this routine when you speak it to your Google Home device.
- In the "My Assistant should..." section, you’ll input the actions you want to happen. Common actions might include:

Turning off or dimming the lights.

Playing soothing sounds or bedtime stories.

Setting an alarm for the next day.

Adjusting the thermostat to a comfortable sleeping temperature.

Providing a brief weather forecast for the next day.

You can add multiple actions by tapping "Add action." Also, you can control the order of actions by dragging them up or down in the list.
Once satisfied, tap "Save" to store your newly created routine. Don’t forget to test it by saying the trigger phrase to your Google Home device.
Customize and Optimize Your Routine
- Over time, you may want to adjust actions or add new ones as your needs change. Simply go back to the "Routines" section in the Google Home app and select the routine you wish to modify.
- Consider linking smart devices to enhance your nighttime routine, like smart plugs, smart blinds, or other compatible appliances.
- If you're sharing a space, make sure others are aware of the routine so they aren't surprised when actions trigger at night.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
- If a specific action isn't working, ensure the device is online and functioning correctly. Check connections and settings in the Google Home app.
- Re-confirm that your Google account is synchronized across all devices. Miscommunication can occur if different accounts are used.
- If your Google Home isn't responding to the trigger phrase, verify that the device's microphone is not muted and that it recognizes voice commands properly.
