Identify the Issue
- Confirm if the lock is truly offline. Open the Home app on your iOS device and check the status of your August lock. If the lock doesn't respond to commands, it's probably offline.
- Confirm that your iOS device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and not operating under airplane mode, which could interfere with HomeKit's functionality.
Check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Status
- Ensure that the August lock is within the Bluetooth range of an Apple Home Hub (such as an iPad, HomePod, or Apple TV) since it connects primarily over Bluetooth.
- Check if your Home Hub is connected to a stable network and positioned in a place where it has a strong wireless connection to the lock. Weak signals might affect the connectivity.
Restart Devices
- Restart your Home Hub. For an Apple TV, HomePod, or iPad, simply power it off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
- Restart your August lock by removing and reinserting its batteries, ensuring they are not depleted.
Update Software
- Check for firmware updates for your August lock. Use the August app on your smartphone to verify if the lock's firmware is up to date.
- Ensure your iOS devices and Home App software are updated to the latest versions available. Compatibility issues might cause devices to go offline.
Re-pair the Lock with HomeKit
- Open the Home app and remove the August lock. To do this, select the lock icon, go to settings, and choose "Remove Accessory."
- Re-add the lock by following the initial setup process in the Home app and using the HomeKit setup code provided with the lock.
Reset Network Settings
- If the issue persists, try resetting the network settings on your iOS device. Go to Settings, select 'General,' and then 'Reset,' followed by 'Reset Network Settings.'
- Reconfigure Wi-Fi settings, and ensure your lock and Home Hub are connected to the same network.
Contact Support
- If none of the steps work, contact August support for further assistance. They might be able to provide specific diagnostics or replacement options if it's a hardware issue.
