Setting Up Apple HomePod Intercom Feature
- Ensure all devices are compatible: The Intercom feature works with HomePod, HomePod mini, and any iOS device running iOS 14.3 or later. Check for these requirements before proceeding.
- Update devices: Make sure all your devices, including iPhones, iPads, and HomePods, are updated to the latest software version. This ensures they support all new features, including Intercom.
- Set up HomeKit Home: The Intercom feature requires that you have a HomeKit home set up in the Home app on your iOS device. If you haven't created a HomeKit home, open the Home app and follow the instructions to set it up.
- Configure Intercom settings in the Home app:

<li>Tap the house icon in the top-left corner to open Homes settings.</li>
<li>Select the desired home if you have multiple homes set up.</li>
<li>Scroll down and find ‘Intercom’ under the Home Settings.</li>

<li>Choose how you would like to send and receive intercom messages. You can configure from whom you want to receive messages (Everyone, Home Members, or Only People Currently at Home), and set which HomePod speakers will receive messages.</li>
Using Intercom: Once set up, to use the Intercom feature, simply say "Hey Siri, Intercom" followed by your message. For example, "Hey Siri, Intercom, I'm on my way home." This message will broadcast to all HomePod devices in your home.
Receiving Intercom Messages: When a message is sent via Intercom, all configured HomePods will play the message aloud. Additionally, iPhones and other devices will receive notifications showing the message.
Troubleshooting Intercom Feature
- Check Connectivity: Ensure all devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If a device is not connected, it may not receive or send intercom messages.
- Verify Settings: Go back to the Intercom settings in the Home app and confirm that the settings are correct. Ensure that each HomePod is turned on and included in the Intercom settings.
- Restart Devices: If you encounter issues, try restarting your HomePod and iOS devices. This can resolve minor glitches affecting connectivity and performance.
