Why is the Ecobee Fan Always Running?
- Fan Mode Settings: The Ecobee thermostat allows different fan modes: 'On', 'Auto', and 'Circulate'. If the fan mode is set to 'On', the fan will run continuously. In 'Auto', the fan only runs with the heating or cooling system. 'Circulate' allows the fan to run intermittently to help with air circulation.
- Fan Runtime Settings: The Ecobee can be programmed to run the fan for a minimum number of minutes per hour to help circulate air, even when heating or cooling isn't active. If this setting is high, the fan will seem to run continuously.
- Thermostat Schedule: A schedule on your Ecobee might have been set to keep the fan running during specified periods.
- System Compatibility Issues: Sometimes, compatibility issues with your HVAC system can cause the fan to run continuously. This usually arises when the thermostat or the HVAC system isn't properly configured.
- Firmware or Software Issues: Outdated firmware or software can sometimes cause unusual behavior, including the fan running continuously.
How to Fix the Issue
- Check Fan Mode: Ensure that your fan mode on the Ecobee isn't set to 'On'. Adjust the settings to 'Auto' for the fan to work only when necessary or 'Circulate' for intermittent operation.
- Adjust Fan Runtime Settings: Go to your Ecobee's settings and look under 'Fan' settings. Lower the minimum fan runtime per hour if it's set too high.
- Revise Thermostat Schedule: Access the thermostat schedule settings to see if there's a programmed schedule causing the fan to run more than desired. Adjust as needed.
- Consult with HVAC Technician: If the problem persists, there may be an issue with system compatibility or configuration. Consider consulting a professional HVAC technician for assistance.
- Update or Restart: Make sure the thermostat firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes a simple restart of the thermostat can resolve temporary glitches.
